The elusive Karo Syrup

One of the problems I’m having right now with my daughter is that it’s difficult for us to make her drink water. No problems with the milk. It’s just that whenever she needs to drink water, especially when her throat gets dry, it’s always a battle we have to win. And most often than not, we don’t.

It’s a good thing that despite this, she still moves her bowel regularly.

But still, the pedia recommends 2-3 oz. of water 3-4 times a day. She told us to buy Karo Syrup and mix it with Zee’s water.

I thought that would be easy. Didn’t know that the hard part of it all would be to find the Karo Syrup in stores.

I’ve been to Megamall, Galleria, and Landmark supermarkets. Hubby dropped by Shopwise Cubao. Went to Unimart in Greenhills last night. My dad already called Cherry Foodarama in Shaw Blvd. They all didn’t have it. And they all had the same explanation: it wasn’t selling as it used to, so they removed it from the shelves.

I’ve been asking around, even in forums, but I still get no replies.

The Karo Syrup remains out of reach until today.

The good thing about all this is that, according to the Karo Syrup website, it’s still in production.

The question now is: where in friggin’ Metro Manila can I buy one?

Hope someone can help me out on this. Until then, we just have to give her water by force. 🙁

Really, Karo Syrup cannot be found in Manila? That’s a first. I also used this on my first daughter. Make sure you get the “Lite” version. It’s less sugar for the baby. Anyhoo, babies don’t need that much water anyway since they get some with the milk. Don’t worry about it too much. =) Sorry I can’t help you with finding one, but good luck! I’m going to the grocery store today. If I find one, do you want me to ship it to you? =)

Yeah, yesterday I went to Rustan’s Supermarket in Shangri-La but they don’t have it also. Haay, I’m always back to square one.

That’s strange indeed. I’ll check Waltermart supermarket tomorrow, they usually have a lot of syrups beside the pancake mixtures. There’s also a bakery supply store there, Bakers Depot that should carry Karo or maple syrup. Cash and Carry Makati has lots of honey and syrups last time I went there. How about substituting honey for the meantime? 🙂

I asked the pedia about honey, but she doesn’t recommend it to be mixed with my baby’s water.

Haay, if I only knew how to go to Cash and Carry. I work in Makati, but I don’t know places beyond Greebelt. LOL!
