Get Ready for the 2019 Spuds and Dairy Culinary Cup

Posted on - in Events, Food

Things are always better in pairs, like cookies and milk, bread and butter, or potatoes and cheese. Such is also the partnership of culinary vision and kitchen skills — it’s a winning combination. And that is what you will witness at the 2019 Spuds and Dairy Culinary Cup on September 6, 1 to 4 PM, at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.

This event, which is a joint presentation of Potatoes USA and the California Milk Advisory Board, pits teams made of a professional chef and a culinary student who together must come up with their best potatoes and dairy dishes. Teams will be provided all the necessary tools and equipment, but would have to shop for their own ingredients. A wide array of U.S. potato and California Dairy products will be made available to them.

See the teams who will go head to head with one another:

2019 Spuds and Dairy Culinary Cup - Team 3 and Team 1
Chef Carlo Miguel and John Lord Doliguez; Chef Christian Carpio and Mary Grace Baban
2019 Spuds and Dairy Culinary Cup - Team 4 and Team 5
Chef James Antolin and Erik Roy San Luis; Chef Kalel Chan and Jason Andrada
2019 Spuds and Dairy Culinary Cup - Teams 2, 6, 7, and 8
Chef Mike Borja and Juan Miguel David; Chef Aileen Anastacio and Jacquelyn Diane Niemela; Chef Rosebud Benitez-Velasco and Christian Cabacungan; Chef Sharwin Tee and Meriel Selenga
2019 Spuds and Dairy Culinary Cup - Team 9 and Team 10
Chef Victor Barangan and Ria Garcia; Chef Robby Goco and Miko Manzano

There’s a catch, though. The chef won’t be permitted to cook; he can only plan, mentor, and oversee dish development as his or her partner student does the execution. Each team would have to load up on their creative juices as categories and special ingredients will be revealed just before the competition.

The board of judges for the 2019 Spuds and Dairy Culinary Cup will be comprised of renowned chefs and culinary experts from Potatoes USA and California Milk Advisory Board.

Amazing prizes await the winning teams. The winners of the Best Potato Dish will each walk away with a cash prize of Php100,000. Meanwhile, the winners of the Best Dairy Dish get to fly to the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley, California for a three-day immersion program — all expenses paid!

Mark your calendars: September 6 is the big day for the 2019 Spuds and Dairy Culinary Cup. Drop by the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall to see this one-of-a-kind culinary event. Admission is free!
