After months of guessing, the ultrasound reveals our baby’s gender.
Ang daming mali ang hula.
Hmm, I think even my mom read the Chinese conceiving calendar wrong.
As for me, I was kept guessing up to the last minute. One time, I felt I’m gonna have a boy, and the next thing I knew I was looking at baby girls’ dresses in the mall.
Well, at least the ultrasound has confirmed it. The sonologist showed us the baby’s genitals. They call it “hamburger” if it’s a girl and “turtle” if it’s a boy, based on the shape.
“‘Di na mapagkakaila,” she said.
Everything’s normal, too: heartbeat, size, fluid, kidneys, limbs. That’s why we’re very happy.
So, Anna Zafina it is. Zee for short. Only MIL didn’t like it because the name had a letter “z” and it’s not lucky daw in feng shui. I don’t really know. (My mom said, “Letter ‘a’ naman yung first name e.”) But hubby likes the name and plans to stick with it. It’s pretty unique, it has a nice meaning (Arabic for “victorious”), and it leaves a sort-of mark that the baby is indeed his, being a gamer-geek-dork-nerd that he is. Plus I bet it won’t give her a hard time getting her NBI clearance when she needs it.
Staring at the ultrasound pics really keeps me smiling. I guess the only things that would worry me now are the pain of childbirth and the friggin’ costs that would go with it.
