How to Nail the Smart-Casual Look

Posted on - in Fashion

There are many great styles you can adopt to keep you looking fashionable, but one of the most effective ones is the smart-casual look. It’s perfect for virtually all occasions, and it’s easy to maintain a chic, classy appearance at all times when you mix more formal attire with more relaxed items of clothing. To make sure you’re looking good and ready for anything, here are some fool-proof ways to pull off smart-casual attire.

Jackets

A great way to incorporate some sophistication into your daily wardrobe is by purchasing a few smart jackets. Blazer-style ones work well, but for something a bit different, consider adding some kimono-inspired jackets or embroidered pieces. These will add some color to your look and less resemble office wear, which inspires a more relaxed appearance. You can see some great examples of these at Froxx.co.uk. Wear a plain top and trousers underneath and let the colorful design of the jacket take center stage.

Shoes

As you’re going about your daily routine, flat shoes are likely to be the most comfortable to run errands, etc. Brogues and pumps are great choices for a smarter design of shoes that will work well with this style. If you’re attending a BBQ or casual drinks, consider wearing wedges or sandals for a playful look that will match jeans and t-shirts. For a more formal event, such as a birthday party, you should put on a pair of heels and a tea dress. This will still encapsulate a more down-to-earth image but be smart enough to wear to a nice restaurant or club for the occasion.

Hair

How you wear your hair will also impact your overall look. Wearing your hair down and keeping things simple will work nicely, but if you want to make more of an effort, consider a French braid or pull your hair into a sleek bun. Tousled waves are also a very fashionable look at the moment and certainly will help to bring a more relaxed vibe to your appearance.

Accessories

Accessories are like the cherry on top of the cake of your outfit. Delicate necklaces, bracelets, and rings are more likely to go with the smart-casual look, as they complement the softer side of the image. Hooped earrings also work very well in small to medium sizes. If you prefer bolder choices with your jewelry, consider wearing a single statement ring or necklace for the best effect. Stylish leather bags should also be worn as part of the smart-casual ensemble; it’s up to you whether you prefer larger bags or smaller ones, either would work well.

Make-up

Nude and natural tones are perfect for daytime hours, but if you’re planning to go out in the evening, consider red lips and smoky eyes, which are more suitable for parties and nights out. If you like to incorporate some color into your palette more generally, bolder shades of lipstick could also be worn during daylight hours, but this would look better matched with understated eye make-up.

To be ready to step out the door in style every day, choose smart-casual outfits for the perfect look.
