US Dehy: A New Kitchen Discovery
I must admit, I’m not a great cook. I mean, I do cook for my family but not the too-complicated dishes. That’s why when I see products that I feel would help me prep food better, I take a good look at them.
Recently, I was introduced to US dehydrated potatoes or US dehy in short. It’s a true-blue US product made from premium potatoes that’s lightweight, compact, and versatile. US dehy is made from white-fleshed Russet potatoes grown and harvested in the US, and processed under stringent standards of the US Department of Agriculture.
US dehy offers savings in time, storage, and money. As they come in flakes, granules, and flour varieties, there’s no need to wash, boil, and peel them. You can store US dehy in a small box, compared to when you store large pieces of potatoes that surely eat up shelf space. They also have a long shelf life of up to 2 years. And they give a large yield for less—when rehydrated, a kilo of US dehy can yield up to as much as 5 kg!
Aside from all of this information, US dehy caught my attention primarily because we’re a family who loves potatoes. They’re actually a staple in the home kitchen; we buy potatoes every week because I know we’ll always be having a dish or two with potatoes in them. And if US dehy can make meal preps easier for me, then I don’t see a reason not to include this in my kitchen shelf.
Maybe for starters, I can use US dehy to make mashed potatoes with some cheese and other seasonings in it.
Here’s a quick and easy way to make mashed potatoes using US dehy:
500 g US Standard Potato Flakes
700 ml Milk
200 g / 1 bar Butter
16 g Salt
2,000 ml / 2 L Water
- Combine water, salt and butter.
- Heat to a boil, remove from heat.
- Add cold milk, gently stir in potato flakes. DO NOT WHIP.
- More flakes can be used if a heavier texture is desired.
