Yes, I Am a #Tita

Posted on - in Internet, Life

I celebrated my birthday early this week. And now, I’m pushing 40. But I still feel young, LOL!

Anyhoo, a day after my birthday, I found myself getting added to the Titos and Titas of Manila page over at Facebook. My sister added me there. Like, WHUT?! Not that I’m denying that I’m a #Tita because I am, hahaha! But my hubby was a member there… until the group posts lorded over his timeline that he failed to see a very important post (his friend died and he didn’t know until a few days after).

So yeah, I guess I tried resisting joining until my sister added me there. She and a lot of my friends are members of the group. Saw them posting and commenting. I left comments on some posts that made me smile and reminisce my younger days.

But then again, the #Tita in me who has learned to distance herself from comic and geek cons, and bars and nightlife started to feel the “noise” of the group. The “Titos” and “Titas” ruled my timeline. And there were “Battle of the Brainless” posts — the quiz-like ones wherein you have to supply the INCORRECT answers, that irritated the hell out of me.

I wanted to bring back the peace and quiet of my Facebook timeline. I tried adjusting my News Feed to show most recent posts but it would always go back to Top Stories. (Dang, Facebook, give me a choice here!) So just like how I would walk away swiftly from the Megatrade Halls when groups of cosplayers would convene during a con, I quickly ticked the “Unfollow” button for the group.

And just like that, I got some peace and quiet. Like a #Tita enjoying a cup of tea alone in her room, watching the view from outside her window.

I’d learn from my alerts that friends would post in the page; it’s only then when I check it out. At least I have control on what I want to see.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a bit of nostalgia. And I recall liking Tropang Trumpo’s Battle of the Brainless back in the days. But when things get too ridiculous for me, I’d rather step back and savor the now — and the silence.

Call me a killjoy, I don’t care. I’m just doing what a #Tita would, really. LOL!
